The Ultra Squid was designed around the many characteristics that trigger aggressive responses from steelhead. Generation 2 features slight changes in material placement and assembly, creating an even more fluid, lifelike swimming profile. Every component works together to produce natural movement that comes alive with the current.

Like the original, the Ultra Squid is  barred and speckled, mimicking the appearance of natural prey. The combination of mottled colors, translucency, and movement gives the fly the look of a living creature rather than just another artificial pattern.

What truly sets the Ultra Squid apart is its exclusive rigging system, the Ultra-Rig™ System.  Each fly is tied with 50-pound SpiderWire® threaded through Ultra Tubing and hitched to a Size 2 AquaTalon Swing Hook. The result is a flexible, incredibly strong connection that allows the hook to move naturally while maintaining excellent hook-up performance.

The Ultra Squid remains the only commercially tied fly to feature the Ultra-Rig™ System. When the hook becomes dull or damaged, it can be replaced without cutting or damaging the trailer loop, extending the life of the fly and keeping it ready for many seasons on the water.
